Paid surveys in Nigeria are real, and they pay small amounts. A genuine survey company pays you a modest reward for a few minutes of your opinion, and it never asks you for money first. Anyone who promises a salary from surveys, or asks for a fee to start, is running a scam.
That is the short answer. This guide gives the longer one: how the business works, why companies pay people at all, which warning signs to look for, and exactly how the PollsAfrica panel pays, with every amount read from our own settings and not from a sales page.

How paid surveys in Nigeria work
Companies, governments, charities and universities want to know what ordinary people think and do. They need that answer from people who fit a description, such as adults in a particular state, drivers, parents or mobile-phone users. A research firm runs the survey, and it needs people willing to answer.
Finding those people is the costly part, so research firms build panels. A panel is a list of people who have agreed to be contacted about surveys. When a study needs, say, adults in the north of the country, the firm invites the panel members who fit and who have said yes. A member who finishes the survey receives a reward. The reward is the research firm's way of saying thanks for your time, and of keeping the panel active.
Four things follow from this, and they help you judge any offer.
The research firm earns its money from the clients who buy the research. It does not earn it from you. If a "survey site" earns money by selling you a membership, a course, a starter pack or a "verification fee", it is selling something to you, and the surveys are the bait.
The rewards are small, because a survey takes a few minutes and the client pays for thousands of answers. Nobody can honestly promise you an income from surveys alone.
Not every survey is for you. A study asks for a certain type of person, and if you are not that type you are screened out in the first questions. A real panel tells you this up front.
Finally, the quality of the answers is what the client buys. So a real panel checks for rushed or duplicate answers and pays only for answers that pass. You should expect that.
What the PollsAfrica panel pays
We run a panel for Nigeria, and these are its terms. Each figure is read from the settings the panel itself runs on.
A typical paid poll pays ₦100. The reward for a particular poll is shown to you before you start, and you can say no to any poll. A member can take part in up to 20 paid polls a month, and a paid poll is normally open for 72 hours, so you have time to answer when it suits you.
Your rewards build up in a balance. You can cash out once the balance reaches ₦500, and the money is paid as airtime on MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile. We pay airtime because it reaches you on the phone you already use and needs no bank account.
Think of it as extra airtime for your time. No honest panel can promise a living from surveys, and we do not.

The referral bonus
If you tell a friend about the panel, you can earn a bonus. When a friend joins through your link and finishes their first valid poll, you receive ₦25. The bonus is ₦50 when the friend belongs to a group the panel most needs to hear from: people in the North-West, North-East or North-Central, women aged 35 and over, anyone aged 45 and over and people living in a village or the countryside. At most 30 referrals a month are credited to one member.
Two rules protect the system from abuse. The bonus is paid only after your friend finishes a poll, and never at sign-up, so a friend who signs up and never answers earns you nothing. And each person can be credited to one friend only. We pay referrals this way because we want real members who answer real polls, and not a long list of names.
Who can join
The panel is for adults aged 18 and over. You sign up with your first name, state, age group, gender and mobile number. Email is optional. We use your age group, gender and state to make sure each survey hears from a fair mix of people, so a poll about a topic like transport is not answered only by young men in one city.
Your answers are reported as group totals, not under your name. We never sell your details. You can leave at any time by emailing us at the partner address on the panel page.
How verification works
Before you can receive paid polls we ask you to verify that the phone number you gave is really yours. You do this by messaging us from the same number: on Telegram you start the PollsAfrica bot and share your phone number, and on WhatsApp you send a short message to our number. Both buttons are on the panel sign-up page.
Verification matters for two reasons. It helps stop one person from signing up many times to collect rewards, which would spoil the results for the client. And it makes sure the airtime goes to the number of the person who earned it. If a survey site asks you to "verify" by sending money, a PIN, a card number or a one-time code, that is not verification. It is theft.
What a genuine survey will and will not ask for
A real survey asks about your opinions and your circumstances: your age group, where you live, what you buy, how you travel, who you trust, how you feel about a policy or a product. Some questions can be personal. A trustworthy panel explains why it asks and lets you skip.
A real survey never asks you for any of these:
- Money, in any form, to join, to unlock a survey or to receive a reward.
- Bank card numbers, card PINs, your BVN or a one-time code sent to your phone.
- Your passwords, for email, social media or any app.
- Which party you support, unless an approved study needs it and you agree.
Our own rule is written on our contacted by us page. Our interviewers say their name and who they work for, ask whether you are an adult and whether you agree to take part, and tell you that you may skip any question or stop at any time. We never ask for money, bank details, PINs or passwords, and we never sell your answers or share them in a way that identifies you.
Red flags that a paid survey is a scam
Most survey scams look alike. Keep this list and check any offer against it.
You are asked to pay. A registration fee, an activation fee, a "starter kit", a premium plan or a fee to withdraw your earnings. Genuine panels do not charge you.
The earnings are guaranteed or large. "Earn a large amount every day", "get paid at once for each answer", or a screenshot of someone's huge earnings. Survey rewards are small and depend on whether you qualify.
You must recruit people to be paid. If the main way to earn is to bring in others who also pay, it is a pyramid scheme, whatever it calls itself. A referral bonus on top of real polls, like ours, is different. The test is whether the money comes from clients buying research or from new members paying in.
It wants your card, BVN or PIN. Nothing about taking a survey needs these.
You cannot find out who runs it. A real company names itself, shows how to contact it and publishes a privacy notice. Look for a company name, a working email address and a page that says what happens to your data.
It pushes you to act quickly. "Only today", "limited places", "your reward expires in an hour". Scammers use pressure to stop you checking.
The reward is not a reward at all. You are asked to download an app, give permissions or install something unrelated to surveys. Keep your phone's permissions to what a survey actually needs.
If an offer fails even one of these checks, leave it. You lose nothing by walking away from a real opportunity, because a real one will still be there after you have checked.
How to join the PollsAfrica panel

Tips for getting more out of paid surveys
Answer honestly, and read the questions. Panels check for people who rush or answer at random, and answers that look rushed or duplicated are held for review and paid only if a person approves them. You earn more over time by being a careful respondent than by being a fast one.
Keep your profile accurate. If you move state or your circumstances change, update them so you are invited to the polls that fit you. Answer when you are invited, because a poll is open only for a limited time.
Use a phone number you will keep. Your balance and your verification belong to that number.
Do not share your login or your verified number with anyone, and do not sign up more than once. Duplicate accounts are caught by the checks, and they cost you your rewards.
Why we explain all this
We run surveys for organisations that need to know what Nigerians think, and we want people to take part because they trust us. That trust is the reason we publish the rules, the amounts and the red flags. The more people who can tell a real panel from a fake one, the better for everyone who wants to answer honestly. If you are a business or an agency that wants a study, see our research services. If you are a developer or researcher who wants data, see the API.
