Minimum wage in Africa 2026: by country

The legal minimum wage in 15 African countries, taken from the law or gazette that sets it. Figures are in each country's own currency and are not converted, because pay periods and rules differ.

8 of 15 countries have a national minimum wage with a confirmed figure in our data. Some pay by the month, some by the day and some by the hour, so read each row in its own period. For 7, there is no national figure to show, and the table says why.

EthiopiaEthiopia has no general private-sector minimum wage: the 2019 Labour Proclamation provides for a Wage Board to set one, but it has not been set up.Ethiopia page
MoroccoMorocco sets an hourly minimum wage for industry, trade and services (SMIG) and a daily one for agriculture (SMAG) by decree. The current decree could not be retrieved from the official gazette site, so no figure is shown.Morocco page
RwandaRwanda's 2018 labour law says a ministerial order will set the minimum wage, but no order has been issued, so there is no enforceable national minimum wage.Rwanda page
SenegalSenegal sets its minimum wage as an hourly rate by decree (370.526 F CFA an hour for non-farm work, 236.865 for farm work), and higher sector minimums are set by collective agreements. The 2023 decree could not be opened on an official site, so the latest confirmed rate is shown in the history only.Senegal page
UgandaUganda has no minimum wage in force today: the law lets the Minister appoint wages boards, but no rate has been set, and Parliament's 2015 Minimum Wage Bill was not signed into law.Uganda page
