Telecom and mobile money consumer research in Africa

What customers actually say about their network and their mobile money, from their side of the phone.

Network reports tell you what the operators measure. We ask the people who use the networks. A telecom consumer study from PollsAfrica shows how customers choose, what they put up with, what would make them switch and how they feel about their mobile money, in their own words and in numbers you can defend.

What a study can answer

  • Which network do people use as their main one, and why did they choose it?
  • How good do they say coverage, call quality and data speed are where they live?
  • How do they judge prices, bundles and the value they get?
  • Have they switched, thought about switching or kept more than one SIM, and what would make them move?
  • How do they use mobile money, what goes wrong, and how do they rate the agents and the support?
  • What do they know and trust about their provider?

Who it is for

  • Operators and mobile money providers that want to see themselves next to rivals.
  • Regulators, investors and analysts who need consumer evidence, not network figures.
  • Fintechs and device or data companies planning a launch.

How we run it

We recruit panel members with consent, ask a short questionnaire by SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram or mobile web, and weight the results to national age, sex and region. We state who was asked, how, when and the exact questions, following the AAPOR and WAPOR codes. See our standards.

Start with a short pulse in one country, then repeat it as a tracker if the first answer shows it is worth it. See how pulse studies, trackers and full studies work.

Where

Nigeria with our Nigeria arm, NigeriaPolls, and Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa.

Frequently asked questions

Can you tell us how our network compares with the others?

Through our panel, yes. We ask people which network they use and how they rate it, and we report what people say with the sample behind it. We do not claim to measure the network itself.

Do you cover mobile money?

Yes. We ask how people use it, what goes wrong, and how they rate agents and support.

Which countries can you cover?

Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa, with our partner network and country advisors behind each.

Will competitors see who commissioned the study?

No. Client names are never shared, and you approve any public case study text before it is published.
