Third-party monitoring

An independent check on whether a programme is doing what it reports.

Funders often want a second pair of eyes on a programme: did the training happen, did the supplies arrive, do beneficiaries say what the report says. Third-party monitoring is that independent check. We design the checks, collect the evidence by phone and through field partners, and report what we found without softening it.

Who it is for

  • Development partners and foundations who fund programmes run by others.
  • Implementing partners who want credible, independent evidence of delivery.
  • Public bodies that need verification before a payment or a decision.

What we do

  • Agree what will be checked, how often and what counts as a pass.
  • Contact beneficiaries and sites by phone, and send field partners where a visit is needed.
  • Record each contact, so every finding can be traced back to who said it and when.
  • Report findings to the funder and the programme in the same format, so nobody is surprised.

What you get

  • A monitoring plan and checklist agreed in advance.
  • Findings by site or beneficiary group, with the evidence behind each.
  • A clear list of issues and the follow-up each one needs.

What decides the price

We do not publish list prices, because studies of the same size can be very different jobs. These are the things that move a quote:

  • Number of sites or beneficiaries and how spread out they are.
  • Whether checks are by phone, by visit or both.
  • How often you need reports.

Try the scoping tool to see which of these matter most for your study, or see how pulse studies, trackers and full studies work.

Where we work

Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Africa. Nigerian studies are run with our Nigeria arm, NigeriaPolls, using the same method.

Frequently asked questions

Are you independent of the programme being monitored?

We only take monitoring work where we have no stake in the programme. We state any link in the plan and the report.

Do you visit sites in person?

Yes, through vetted field partners, and you see exactly who went where. Many checks can also be done by phone, which is faster and just as reliable.

How do you protect beneficiaries?

Contact is by consent, we collect only what the monitoring needs, and we never share names or numbers beyond the agreed recipients.
